United Nations General Assembly – SOCHUM

Agenda: Review of the existing conventional arms control regimes with special emphasis on transparency and confidence building measure

The United Nations General Assembly is the only organ of the UN where all member states have an equal say in decision-making via each member state being represented and having one vote. The UN General Assembly has 6 sub-committees: the Disarmament and International Security (DISEC) subcommittee, the Economic and Financial (ECOFIN) subcommittee, the Social, Cultural and Humanitarian (SOCHUM) subcommittee, the Special Political and Decolonization (SPECPOL) subcommittee, the Legal subcommittee and the Administrative and Budgetary subcommittee. The GA also has a Plenary meet aside from the meetings of these subcommittees. The GA makes decisions which are advisory or recommendatory in nature on a variety of issues.

Govind Goyal is currently pursuing his Bachelors in Technology degree from IP University, New Delhi. An immensely talented person armed with impeccable assertive skills, he is one of the most respected MUN-ers in the North India MUN circuit, ready to share his knowledge and guiding skills here. Filled with intellect and wisdom, his only motive to do MUNs is to give knowledge and a smile of satisfaction amongst the delegates present in his committee during the course of this conference!

For him, MUNs mean Manipulation, Understanding and Negotiation, but with diplomacy. Having experience in training more than 5000 students in the field of MUNs, attending MUNs abroad and debating, he still believes in mutual respect and maintains it with everybody, irrespective of age or experience.
